Cinderella Corner

Blog Post

Cinderella Corner

I am a child of the 1960's, a time when there were 3 major television stations to choose from ABC, CBS and NBC. A time when you got up off your couch to turn the dial to change the channel and adjust the volume. Today, I suppose all that might be considered Television aerobics.

I remember waiting excitedly every year to watch Roger & Hammerstein's Cinderella. As she sang and danced her way through the fairytale I was especially intrigued by her song that went something like this... But, I know of a spot in my house where no one can stand in my way. In my own little corner in my own little chair, I can be who ever I want to be. On the wind of my fancy I can fly anywhere and the world will open it's arms to me. All alone in my own little corner, all alone in my own little chair, I can be whatever I want to be. I would like add the next line to say, and I can do whatever I want to do.

I created a vision board and on it I have a sketch for an Art Studio above my garage, and just as soon as I can take the roof off the garage, add a second floor and turn a window into a doorway into the studio, the dream will become a reality. No big deal right for a good contractor right? However in the mean time I have come to realize that I have created Cinderella Corners in my house! Corners or nooks that I have claimed as my own to sew, paint, draw, scrapbook, blog, and plan a summer camp. In these corners I can escape and play, reflect and plan...turn on my favorite music, sit in my own little chair, do whatever I want to do and be whoever I want to be.

So you see you don't need a great big room to call your own, just pick a spot and set up shop, designate it as your own. Surround yourself with inspiration and get to work on creating what you love, what makes you smile or brings joy to others. Don't procrastinate, don't hesitate, pick up your chair and set it there... in your own little corner. ~ Terry

Live Each Day...

Live each day to the fullest. Get the most from each hour, each day and each age of your life. Then you can look forward with confidence, and back without regrets. Be yourself, but be your best self. Dare to be different and follow your own star.

And don't be afraid to be happy.

Enjoy what is beautiful. Love with all your heart and soul.

Believe that those you love, love you.

Forget what you have done for your friends, and remember what they have done for you.

Disregard what the world owes you, and concentrate on what you owe the world.

When you are faced with a decision, make that decision as wisely as possible - then forget it.

The moment of absolute certainty never arrives.

Above all, remember that God helps those who help themselves. Act as if everything depended upon you, and pray as if everything depended upon God... Author Unknown

Marketing Blues

Well, the last several weeks have been spent listening to webinars, & attending seminars to learn about social - media marketing. I have come to the realization that I must BLOG, I must be consistent, dependable and interesting and attract readers. I need to blog frequently so that my ranking will rise to the top of Google's search pages. I must Tweet on Twitter, I must have a page on FACEBOOK! Have I checked my URL for SEO? And how about those Meta Tags, am I using good words for people to find me? So many questions and rules to follow, most of which are stated in some foreign computer language that half the time I don't understand. Talk about peer pressure! You need Friends on Facebook to endorse you, strangers on Twitter to follow you... we used to call this stalking, but today this is a coveted status; to have many followers peeking in on your business and status and what you ate for dinner. Why am I doing all this? Well you see, I dreamed of a summer camp for women. A place where we could relax and leave all our worries behind for a few days of self indulgence, to swim, read, create art, sing, sit around a campfire, enjoy a massage or reiki treatment, do WHATEVER we want for just a few days. Replenish and rejuvenate our weary spirits and souls enjoy the peace and quiet of the woods at Central Oak Heights and have some fun! So, I say " on my honor I will try to post a blog on a regular basis to invite the world to find my summer camp." ~ Terry

The List

Lists, I love to make lists! These handy little words neatly lined up and numbered keep me on track, organized and ready to tackle a project or event with enthusiasm and confidence. From tackling a construction project, planning an event or just doing the dreaded grocery shopping, a list is always with me. There is great satisfaction in crossing off the needed tasks to get the mission accomplished and off my list. But, today I am making a special list, one that I will not being crossing anything off. No, this one is intended to keep growing longer as I reflect on people who have inspired, encouraged, educated, loved and supported me in my life. I would like to encourage you to take some time over the next week and think about who those people are in your life, give them a call and let them know how special they are to you.

1. Bob my husband who has shared this journey of life with me for the last 35 years, who loves and supports my dreams and aspirations.

2. Sara, Jenny and Joe, my children who have given me the chance to experience so many wonderful things; who always encourage me to believe in myself and my gifts.

3. Marilyn, my deceased mother who taught the importance of a personal relationship with God was the most important friendship of your life. Who lived her faith through action not just words. She taught me that life is not about money or the stuff we accummulate, that what really matters, is the relationships and experiences we share, the people we love and the difference we make in this world that count. She taught me look hard to see the good in each and every human being; she taught to forgive.

4. Papa who taught me to be patient, look, listen. Who said, " You can't move forward always looking over your shoulder." He taught me to respect nature and admire it's beauty.

5. Nana who never let us forget the girl within her all of her 91 years and enjoyed life despite any hardships or adversity.

6. Julie my sister in law who sees the glory in the world God has created and sees the true beauty in people.

7. Jean Miller my dear friend who taught to not be so hard on myself and insisted that I was "such a clever girl."

8. Dick Hinkelman who taught me to live intentionally.

9. KJ Wagner who followed her dream and encourages others to realize and follow theirs too.

I'll continue with my list... how about you?
