RELAX,BREATHE, CREATE, ENJOY

I was talking to a friend the other day about vacations. She said it takes her at least 2 days to just wind down into a " vacation mode" and relax... we are so busy and distracted by so many things, that it is a challenge to sit quietly, enjoy the beauty of the natural world around us and just listen. This was my morning walk to put on the coffee at camp, so beautiful with the sun peeking through the trees and the birds singing...

When we take the time to rest and empty our minds of all the clutter, we restore our energy for things we love to do. Paint, sing, play, read, dance, dream, swim, walk... remember? What do you like to do?

Campfire, singing with KJ &smore's

New friends gathered, enveloped by the smoke swirling around from the crackling fire dancing from the blackend embers. Laughter echoing through the woods and fields; Voices joined together in song around the campfire; music transcends language, occupation, backgrounds, it brings us together in perfect balance and reminds us of all that is delightful. Pure joy to the soul.

Only *Some* Things Stay at Camp
Camp Ladybug
My mother’s dream came to fruition this past weekend. For thirty years, she dreamt of a place and a time for women to leave the worries & stress of everyday living behind and relax. A place where women create, laugh, and rediscover themselves.

Before the women arrived, Camp Ladybug was just a place — three sleeping cabins, an art house, and the Ladybug Cafe.

In the planning stages of Camp Ladybug, the campers were just names and ages on a piece of paper. What would they look like? Would they like the meals and activities that we had planned?

There was nervous excitement when the clock struck three on Thursday afternoon. Suddenly, names had faces and with that… a kind of magic. A magic that can not be explained in writing, only experienced through intimate conversation, the sharing of a meal, through paint, song, or in the healing power of a guitar.

Camp Ladybug… where sisters go to support one another.

A place where “I used to…” picks up a guitar and plays.

Camp Ladybug… a place to escape the stress of chemotherapy.

Where the little girl inside sets aside fear to pick up a paintbrush.

Camp Ladybug… where leukemia & multiple sclerosis can’t win.

A place where bras are optional and the sound of laughter is a gentle cadence.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The decorations are put away, the cabins empty, and it’s quiet again. What peace may I find in this silence? The peace of knowing that it was real and it was good.

We left some things behind there… and replaced them with sunshine, strength, tranquility, vibrance, and a promise to ourselves. Each promise is unique. Each truth is unique. And while we all came to camp for different reasons, I believe that we ALL experienced a renewal of spirit.

You are ALL forever in my heart.

The Power of Words

We talked about the internal conversations we have, we talked about surrounding ourselves with positive images and words. We painted, we created, we imagined and we will remember our words and our promises.

Camp 2010!

It's hard to believe a week has gone by since we were at camp! I miss the tranquility of the woods, the sun shining through the trees, the sound of the screen doors slamming. I miss the incredible women who shared in my dream of a summer camp for women.

They came from both near and far, they came as sisters, mothers & daughters and as individuals on a journey; in search of self, in search of fun, laughter and relaxation and a massage. Seeking refuge from our busy world, seeking refreshment and rediscovery of one's self.

We realized those dreams and so much more in those few days. In those little cabins in the woods where life was simple, hands were many, worries were burned and friendships were born, spirits were restored, lives were blessed.

I've returned home fulfilled and enriched from the experience of seeing a dream come to life, thanks to the women who shared in my vision. I have been truly blessed this weekend with joy in my heart, peace within my spirit as I witnessed the smiles, felt the joy, heard the laughter at Camp Ladybug For Women. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those women who came and believed. I found a quote which summed up my emotions as I returned from camp; I hope you enjoy it as well. ~ Terry

" Occasionally in life there are those moments of unutterable fulfillment which cannot be completely explained by those symbols called words. Their meanings can only be articulated by the inaudible language of the heart." ~ Martin Luther King Jr

Countdown to Camp!

guest post by Sara

Final preparations are being made for camp!

We're gathering up our paintbrushes, planning a delicious menu, and warming up the hula hoops! Terry is pressing & sewing linens, I'm gathering sunshine, & KJ is tuning her guitar. I can smell the scent of toasted marshmallows as fireflies dance in the distance.

How about you?

As for me, I'll be the toddler free woman sunning herself by the pool with a pile of Country Living magazines, an ice cold diet coke, & no agenda. Come say hello!

The Question of the Day... What are the Bathrooms like?

Okay ladies, this question has come up several times in the last couple of days, so I thought I should reassure you ~

The bathhouse is located right next to the sleeping cabins. It contains 6 sinks with hot and cold running water. The showers are fully tiled and the facilities are fully equipped.

The Reiki Healing Priciples

Just for today,

I release all worry.

Just for today,

I release all anger.

I earn my living with integrity.

I honor every living thing.

I show gratitude for all my many blessings.

What is Reiki?

History - Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy. It is a healing method which was rediscovered in the late 1800's by a Japanese Christian Minister named Mikao Usui. It was brought to the USA in the 1930's by a Japanese American woman named Hawayo Takata. Reiki is now practiced and taught in every country in the world.

The Reiki Practitioner ~

Is someone who acts like a conduit or funnel through which Universal energy ( Reiki) flows. Wehn the practitioner places his or her hands on your body, he or she is passive and does not control how much energy your body receives, where it goes or how it is used. Your body, in its infinite wisdom, will take whatever amount of energy it needs - to wherever you need it most - for your Highest Good.

A Reiki Treatment ~

* is deeply relaxing and comforting
* catalyzes the body's natural ability to heal
* stimulates the immune system
* has continuing effects for hours and even days after the treatment
* REDUCES STRESS, PAIN AND INFLAMMATION
* can be used on animals and plants in addition to people
* in non manipulative, non - invasive and non - intrusive
* supports all other forms of healing including medical treatment, by bringing your body to a place of balance where healing can occur
*supports your body in releasing physical symptoms
can reduce/relieve pain, especially chronic pain, by bringing your body to balance
*reduces frequency and /or severity of opportunistic diseases that ofter occur in immune compromised conditions

During a Reiki Treatment ~

*you lie on a table fully clothed and covered with a sheet or blanket
*the practitioner's hands are placed in a specific sequence of positions on your head, chest and back. They rest gently in each position for approximately 5 minutes.

*The entire treatment takes about 1 1/2 hours.
*diagnosis is unnecessary, so there is no need for you to share the details of your medical condition
*Conversation is unnecessary and whatever you choose to say will be held in total confidence
*please let the practitioner know if you feel uncomfortable for any reason ( too hot, too cold etc.) - at any time. This treatment is for you. Your comfort and relaxation are first and foremost
*RELAX AND ENJOY - there is nothing that you need to do, think about or focus on.

A little preview... Camp Ladybug For Women

Picture this, you've packed your bags, just yours ... with your very favorite comfy clothes , shoes, swimsuit, and pj's. You've tied up your bedding with a ribbon that would bring Martha Stewart to tears, rolled up your towel, tucked in your toothbrush and you're ready to go. You feel a bit giddy, just thinking about leaving home without any of the kids, dogs, hubbies in tow, a little guilty just for a fleeting moment. You've grabbed that book you've been meaning to read, and your favorite CD's for the car ride, because YOU get to listen to whatever you want on your way to CAMP! Driving along in my automobile...

You're cruisin along, jammin to the music, feeling more relaxed by the minute. You turn off the highway and start up the winding driveway, slowly turning this way and that till you see the sign that leads the way to our little cabins nestled in the woods. You are there! Camp Ladybug! You park the car and leave all your worries, responsibilities, cell phones, behind. You are ready to relax, replenish, rejuvenate, rediscover...yourself. Reconnect with the girl inside and have some fun!

The last 2 months have been spent making plans for Camp Ladybug! I am very excited to see this dream unfolding. It's our turn ladies, time for us to turn our focus and energy to ourselves, for one little weekend getaway.

Follow me down a meandering path to simple little cabins nestled in the woods, to a place where time has not blemished what is natural, what is good. Towering trees sway in the breeze beckoning you to look skyward. Stand there for just a moment, relax... and take in a really deep breath. You feel better already don't you? Now, exhale and get ready for a great time!

The next 3 days are all yours! You can bring that project you've been wanting to work on at home and never have time for or you can catch up on your reading. There are lots of activities planned and guests to inspire and encourage you to take time for yourself, dare to dream, and have fun! We'll laugh, sing, swim and even exercise. When's the last time you tried a Hula Hoop?

My camp brochure is going to the printer this week and we'll start mailing them out the following week. If you'd like a brochure and camp registration please email me at Campladybug4women@yahoo.com and I'll be happy to mail one to you. ~ Terry
